The 2008 Cadillac STS wraps up luxury and fuel efficiency in a beautiful package. Like the slightly smaller CTS, the STS produces very good gas mileage ratings for a mid-size luxury sedan equipped with an all wheel drive (AWD) system. (Rear wheel drive is standard.) While the STS is slightly longer and heavier than the CTS, its interior dimensions are very close to its less expensive brother. All-in-all, the STS represents an excellent opportunity for Cadillac to retain Escalade owners looking to downsize, but stay with the brand as the move to a more appropriate AWD vehicle for today’s climate.

Standard 2008 Cadillac STS power train choices include a 3.6 liter V-6 producing 302 horsepower (HP) / 272 foot pounds of torque and a 4.6 liter V-8 that delivers 320 HP / 315 foot pounds of torque. The STS-V is fitted with a 4.4 liter V-8 producing 469 HP /439 foot pounds of torque. A six-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission is standard.

Note: the EPA tweaked their testing procedure, starting with the 2008 model year, with the end result being that the 2008 MPG estimates are now lower than previous years. As always, YMMV.

  1. The STS 4.6 liter gives me around 32 miles to the gallon between 60 and 75 MPH. Unbeleivable but true. The 2005 STS 8 cyl got better gas mileage than the 2006 STS 6 cyl…… Not even close

  2. I own a 1993 cadillac seville STS and the meter to the left of the dash claims it gets 19-20 m.p.g. Yet, when I bought the car I filled it up and hit the button to record the miles so when I fill up again I would see what it really gets. I have the tank 1/4 full and the meter says that I have gone 183 miles. My car has a 20 gallon gas tank. So after the calculations I figured 183/3=61 61/5=10.2 . So does my car really get 10.2 mpg because the meter on the side that gives my my average mpg never falls below 15 on a bad day with alot of stops in town. Is this normal??????
