The 2008 Pontiac G5 delivers the style and the miles, not to mention that all-important iPod jack. Every model of the G5 scores solid gas mileage figures, with highway ratings in the low-thirty mile per gallon (MPG) range.
The 2008 G5 Coupe is available in base model and GT trim, with the base model scoring slightly higher gas mileage. The G5 GT (shown above) boasts a larger and more powerful engine, along with four-wheel disc brakes, StabiliTrak (a vehicle stability enhancement system), fog lamps, rocker moldings, front and rear body-color fascias, a sport-tuned suspension, and 17-inch alloy rims.
The 2008 Pontiac G5 base model is fitted with a 2.2 liter DOHC four cylinder engine producing 148 horsepower (HP) and 152 foot pounds of torque. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, while a four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with overdrive is optional.
The 2008 Pontiac G5 GT is equipped with a 2.4 liter DOHC four cylinder engine producing 171 HP and 167 foot pounds of torque. As with the base model, a five-speed manual transmission is standard on the GT, while a four-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with overdrive is optional. The GT uses a lower axle ratio than the base model (3.91 vs 3.63).

man this car is so cool
I have a 2007 GT 2.4Lt Automatic. It is much slower than the 5speed I test drove. It gets avg 20.1mpg according to the computer. No where NEAR high 20’s or low 30’s as it says. Also it is CHEAPLY made. I paid 20grand for a piece of slow plastic junk. Today I was opening my moon roof, the button fell out in my hand. The car has 20,000 miles on it!!!! The tires are worn out at 20K, the moon roof button hangs from the ceiling, the buttons on the radio fall off about every other time I use them. I am VERY gentle to my car, I wash it, wax it, maintain it, change everything to the book. Its just poorly made and the only reason I got it was the gas mileage… It doesn’t do much better than my 4.0liter Jeep wrangler. What a waste of money, I’m going to unload it this fall.
I just bought a 08 Pontiac G5 GT………….it is an awesome car….I love it. It is the best car ever
I HAVE THE 08 GT. I GOT 36 MPG AT 70 MPH FROM ALBUQUERQUE, NM TO DENVER, CO RECENTLY. I AVERAGE 29 TO 30 MPG AROUND THE CITY. THE CAR HAS ALL THE OPTIONS EXCEPT REMOTE STARTING AND A BLOCK HEATER. I LOVE THE SAT RADIO, THE LEATHER AND THE SUN ROOF. I PAID $17.5K CASH , DEC 08, AND IT’S CHEAP TO INSURE. GREAT CAR SO FAR.
I just bought my 08 G5 GT 2.4 and I have to say its the best car I’ve had yet. In reality the condition of the car and the driver contribute to the mpg. If you go gunning every time you accelerate then yea your going to have problems. Your going to screw up your trans intake manifold and then your going to start leaking oil around the piston rings. That’s how people get bad gas mileage. You have take care of your car. Run synthetic and occasionally if you have a shop and know what your doing give it a twice over and make sure its clean. If you take care of your car it will take care of you. I absolutely love the disc brakes. It makes changing them a dream. I used to own a Saturn and it got good gas mileage the only problem was it was plastic. If you get into an accident with that; your dead. The Pontiac is solid. I feel my purchase was sound and I feel safe when I drive my car way more important than the gas mileage. Which is actually a little higher than what the epa says. Test it yourself.
