When the Ford Edge was introduced in the 2007 model year, it marked a clear departure for Ford away from their traditional truck-based SUVs to a modern crossover platform. Nevertheless, the five-passenger 2008 Edge delivers average gas mileage for its size.
While the Edge is less stingy with gas than its stablemate, the Ford Escape Hybrid, it takes the lead when it comes to options like the voice-activated SYNC communication and media system, rear seat DVD system, and Panoramic Vista Roof.
The 2008 Ford Edge is fitted with a 3.5 liter V-6 engine producing 265 horsepower and 250 foot pounds of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
The Edge will become significantly more fuel efficient in the near future, as Ford rolls out its new engine technology. With direct injection, the 20% increase in the Edge’s gas mileage ratings will be most welcome.

Note: the EPA tweaked their testing procedure, starting with the 2008 model year, with the end result being that the 2008 MPG estimates are now lower than previous years. As always, YMMV.

my mother owns a ford edge se and it does not get 18 city and 25 hwy. it gets better gas milage then that it gets about 20 city and 35 hwy
We have a 2007 edge. It gets poor mileage with gas containing 10% ethanol (19-20 Highway).
With gas containing no ethanol we see (22.5-23 Highway).
We have never seen the 25 MPG advertised by Ford.
I have a ford edge and like seadog, It will only get the advertised mileage if your goin downhill with a wind behind you. It sucks, 22 miles / gal highway 18 city at the best. Usually worse. Thats goin by actually miles not the computer/ though the computer does confirm it.
my 4.0l explorer got this, so why drive something so ugly and useless and get crappy mileage
2008 Ford Edge Limited, Love this car, however, after less than 10K miles I am having issues with the cam phasers. Both intake and exhaust. Car has been in the shop for over a week today and cant seem to get clear answers. Was explained to me that these parts may be what is causing the poor gas mileage. Very disappointed.
I have 2500 miles on my 08 Edge limited AWD. I’m waiting for my mileage to improve. I get 16 MPG with combined City and Highway driving. I bought the car because I thought it would get 18 – 22. Hoping it will improve.
5000 miles on a an AWD Limited. Don’t hold your breath. The mileage won’t get better. I’m getting 15mpg combined almost all the time. window sticker states 17/24. ell, it DID say that for the 08’s, but for the 09’s they’ve been changed to 15/22 for the SAME engine with NO changes…convenient. I love the rest of the car but I got out of an F150 after a lease for only 2mpg better with just about the same sticker price. Bummer. Good thing the rest of car is great.
My 07 Edge AWD with 30,000 miles has averaged 17 mpg and I drive 90% highway. Absolutely Terrible.
WE JUST PURCHASED A FORD EDGE 2007 IN FEB. OF THIS YEAR. WE THOUGHT IT WOULD GIVE US BETTER MILEAGE THAN OUR MALIBU. WE WERE WRONG MY MALIBU GAVE US 20 MPH IN THE CITY, THE EDGE IF I’M LUCKY IT WILL GIVE ME 17MPH. WE THOUGHT IT WOULD GET BETTER IF I DROVE IT IN THE HWY, BUT IT REALLY DON’T GO HIGHER THAN 19.
Bought a used 07 EDGE in 12/09, started out getting 20 to 22mpg, now getting 16 TO 16.5. Don’t know what happend.
I love my 2008 Ford Edge limited awd, but the gas mileage is horrible- 18 mpg. I have a Dodge Durango that gets that and it has a 3rd row seat. I’m actually trading my edge in for a 2011 Honda Civic- 35mpg..The edge is beautiful inside and out, but very slow. I will miss my vista roof.
I just bought a 2012 edge limited it rides great and beautiful inside and out but gas milage sucks it only gets 19 miles per gal. on the interstate with cruse set at 65 (6 cyl.) I was looking for 25 t0 26 . I wish i could get my old car back but look at what it would cost i only have 235 miles on this new one
