1. Just a quick note and or question. I have 62000 km on my 2010 grand vitara and the miliage has been going up. was at 11 Ltres per 100 KM and now it is down to 10 Ltres per 100 Km. Why is this in reverse to normal vehicles where you have better miliage in the beginning and as time goes on it gets worse. 90 percent of the driving is all highway and I am filling it up every 2 days which is rediculous.

2. @Phil – Has your daily driving routine changed at all? Are traffic conditions the same? Are you checking tire pressure on a regular basis? Those are the first few things to consider. There are lots of variables when it comes to gas mileage …

3. I have a 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara Luxury Model 4WD. I have 5 speed automatic. I drive it easy. Your site says I should get 19 city and 23 highway. My owners manual says 16 and 22. I drive 95% in city. I have never gotten more than 16.67 mpg. If you know a secret to the better mileage please tell me.

4. @Li Sue – The original rating from the EPA was 19/23. Printed material from the manufacturers can sometimes be inaccurate, as it is prepared in advance of the vehicle’s final ratings.

   City driving can vary significantly, depending on conditions. Every idle period and acceleration event consumes fuel.

   From a maintenance standpoint, make sure that everything is operating up to spec. When it’s time to replace the tires, consider switching to a good set of low-rolling-resistance tires. When it’s time to replace the fluids, use synthetics.

   Consider adding an instant fuel economy display, like the ScanGaugeE or AutoMeter EcoMeter – this will help you learn how and when to lift off the accelerator for maximum efficiency.

   Minimize idle time. Maximize your use of inertia. Once you’re up to speed, lift your foot off the accelerator and glide.
