Honda Odyssey Gas Mileage: 1995 – 2013

Although Honda’s popular Odyssey was first introduced in 1995, it didn’t hit its stride until a 1999 redesign. Over the years, the Odyssey’s solid reputation for quality and good gas mileage ratings have enabled it to become one of the best-selling minivans in America.

The Odyssey was redesigned for the 2011 model year. All 2011 Odysseys are fitted with the 3.5-liter 24-Valve SOHC i-VTEC V6 engine, rated at 248 HP. The LX, EX, and EX-L models use a five-speed automatic, while the Touring Edition uses a six-speed. Fuel economy figures have improved over previous years, with the LX, EX, and EX-L rated at 18 city / 27 highway / 21 combined and the Touring Edition rated at 19 / 28 / 22.

30 MPG Cars

Thirty miles per gallon (MPG) on the highway isn’t too much to ask. As the chart below shows, the 30 MPG car isn’t a rarity in America these days. Alas, it’s not nearly as common as it was 25 years ago. Looking back at the lists of high MPG cars built in the early 1980s might be a surprise to some, for the lists were long and the fuel efficiency ratings were high. The 30 MPG car was not an oddity back then … it was more part of our nation’s mindset.

GMC Canyon Gas Mileage

The mid-sized GMC Canyon was introduced in 2004 as a replacement for the GMC Sonoma. Gas mileage ratings for the Canyon are good for the current crop of mid-size pickups, with the standard engine providing 24 miles per gallon (MPG) on the highway. Along with its corporate cousin, the Chevrolet Colorado, the Canyon competes with the Dodge Dakota. The Colorado also shares its platform with the Isuzu i-Series; all three trucks are built in GM’s Shreveport, Louisiana plant.

The 2008 GMC Canyon comes standard with a 185 horsepower (HP) 2.9 liter inline four cylinder engine. A 3.7 liter inline five cylinder engine producing 242 HP is also available. Although a diesel engine is not currently an option in the Canyon, Isuzu’s D-Max pickup truck is fitted with a miserly 16-valve DOHC inter-cooled 3.0 liter turbo diesel inline four cylinder engine in other parts of the world. Mid-size truck owners would welcome GMC fitting this fuel-efficient turbo-diesel in the Canyon.

Isuzu Pickup Truck Gas Mileage

Isuzu has a long history of producing fuel-efficient pickup trucks. The gas mileage ratings for the current line of Isuzu I-Series pickups falls in line with its corporate cousins, the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. While the I-Series gas mileage ratings are good for a current mid-sized pickup truck, they are a shadow of the fantastic mileage delivered by the diesel powered Isuzu P’up and Chevy Luv of the early 1980s, when it was not uncommon for a small oil burner to boast highway ratings over 35 miles per gallon (MPG).

The 2008 Isuzu I-290 pickup truck is fitted with a 185 horsepower (HP) 2.9 liter inline four cylinder as standard equipment, while the I-370 comes with a 3.7 liter inline five cylinder engine that delivers 242 HP. Although a diesel engine is not currently available in Isuzu’s I-Series pickup trucks here in the States, a fuel-efficient 16-valve DOHC inter-cooled 3.0 liter turbo diesel inline four cylinder engine is available in the Isuzu D-Max overseas.
