1. What can I expect for gas milage on a 6.6 diesel non-dualy, crew cab, unloaded? (no towing or hauling)

2. 201 miles yesterday unloaded 14.8 gal, I haven’t got 14 miles to a gal yet love the truck; the people saying they are getting 20, 25, 30 r just full of it.

3. 2007 5.3 worst mileage on highway of any 5.3 I have owned in last 4 years 13 mpg@ 70 mph. If I drive 55 on cruise I get 15mpg. My other 5.3’s always got around 19-21. Also hesitates when applying throttle.

4. I had a 2001 regular cab, 6 speed manual, 2wd, and I routinely got 22 in highway/country road driving. A bad tank was 18, a good tank was 24.5 (highway, being very easy on the accelerator and keeping it at or below 65). But GM has upped the hp in the newer ones….. however, the fuel economy rewards drivers who do *not* engage the turbo — it’s like driving a racecar when you hear that whirr, but it’s not without a penalty, obviously.

5. Will someone tell me the mileage of a 4.8 Extended Cab 2WD Auto? Any year all around average not driving you’re in the mobile gas economy run tanks.

12. i have a 2007 and 2008 chevy . the 07 has a 5.3 with afm and gets at best 14.2 mpg. My 08 has a 4.3 used for work and im getting a whopping 11 mpg. i’m very dissapointed! i wouldve went with a v-8 if i wouldve known the 4.3 milage was so bad

14. @Thom – Sounds like you want to determine fuel costs for the trip. Best bet is to go to maps.google.com and get a rough estimate of the distance (Phoenix to Detroit is over 2,000 miles), then divide that by your Dually’s average highway mileage and multiply by an average price per gallon.

15. I just purchased 2000 chevy suburban from my daughter with 198,000 miles 5.3 vortec engine in 6/08. I left Atlanta, Ga. headed back Cols., Ohio. We stopped just outside Lexington, Ky about 400 mi. with 1/4 of a tank left. It has a 32 gal. tank I calculate we got about 19 to 20 mpg. That’s too bad for an old girl, we call her Ms. Gi Gi…… and this no ghost story……………………..

16. I currently own a 2004 chev, 1500 ext. cab, with the 5.3 vortec. i get about a 19.3 mpg on highway at 75 mph.
    I also own a 2006 chev, 1500 crew cab with a 5.3 vortec. i get about 19 on highway. i am impressed with the fuel economy.

17. The new Silverado as well as F150 and Ram are huge dissapointments as far as MPG. I have a 90 Sierra with the 4.3L and 700r4 and posi axle 3.42 and get 23mpg regularly on hwy. Plus although all the trucks are now longer than a school bus, they don’t even offer a regular cab with a real short box deluxe trim with a six cylinder and hwy gears.
    Not everyone wants the work truck stripped versin or a regular long wheelbase. For over 3 decades the short box regular cabs were the hottest item on every used car lot in America. Now they aren’t even made! The push to 4 door behemouths is OK for those who need them, but most don’t. The economy price is too high. Room inside the cab has decreased drastically. Bring back a real bench seat and provide headroom again for entering and exiting with a hat on your head. Americans aren’t short and we need headroom for all us over 6′ guys.

19. i have a 2000 chevy express 3500 cargo van, and when the cargo area is full of tools i get about 9mpg’s
    or empty on a slope up i get about 9mpg
    when i hit the gas hard i get 9mpg.
    when i keep it cool and cruse i get 11pmg.

20. I have a 2008 3500HD Crewcab Dually the mileage unloaded is 20.1 l/100km (11MPG US) and loaded is 21.7 l/100 KM (13 MPG US). The Diesel Particulate Filter burns more fuel when the truck is loaded to keep the emissions down. I have had 2 previous diesels and this is the first one that does not stink of like a diesel when you are standing next to it.
    The power of the 6.6 duromax is amazing 365 HP & 660 Torque which still gives me power to accelerate up a 7.0% grade with 6 ton GVW load at 100 km.

24. I have a 2000-1999, 4Dr Crew cab — it has a new cold air intake, dual exhaust and a Chip and I still only get (190 miles to a tank full) – 22 gallon tank. What can I do NOW to get better mileage!!!!

25. @MrD – There are no silver bullets, unfortunately.

    The best bet is to adopt a light-footed driving style. The feedback provided by an aftermarket fuel-efficiency gauge like the ScanGauge II or Auto Meter EcoMeter can help you learn when and how you can lighten your foot.

    You don’t have to drive like a granny, but you do need to make some changes … every time you stomp on that pedal, you’re pouring a bucket of liquid money. The trick is to find the right balance …

26. @MrD..i would check to see if you have any problems with o2 sensor or the fuel pump..something just doesn’t seem like its working right when your getting numbers like that a tank

30. I had a 2006 1500 4X4 with the 5.3 liter. The truck was amazing on gas. I was averaging 19.5 mpg (mostly highway). That is until I put Flowmasters on the beast. My mileage went down to 14 mpg!! Not the truck’s fault, simply because I could not keep my foot out of the throttle :-). That truck was fast as crap. I routinely blew the doors off f-150’s and the almighty Hemi Ram Trucks with this truck! Overall a great running truck, but unfortunatly, Chevy has just never improved their interiors compared to a Ford. The truck rattled and squeeked from day one. Went back to F-150, much better ride with better interior, but the performance was not even close to the Chevy with the 327!!

33. @Dave Looks like the spec is 15 city / 21 highway … not sure about the gearing.

    There are lots of variables:
    Daily routine, payload, driving style, typical highway speeds, tire size/type …

    Two ideas:
    – If your truck has an instant fuel economy gauge, use it all the time … it will help you develop a light-footed driving style. This can make a considerable difference in fuel consumption.
    – If your truck isn’t fitted with low rolling resistance tires, you might consider switching to them when you’re due for a new set.

34. I am looking at buying a 1999 Chevy C/K3500 crew cab, long beg, with a gasoline engine, but I an find anything on the mpg. Can anyone help me out?

35. 2002 Silverado 4WD, Regular Cab, 5.3L,
    Maxxis Buckshot tires 265-75-R16, K and N cold air intake kit-bought @ AutoZone for $300.00- installed five years ago, 50 Series Flowmaster muffler, Castrol Full Synthetic 5W-30. 40 PSI in my tires. Constantly get 22 MPG on the highway. Combination city/highway I get around 19.5 – 20.5 MPG’s. Regular tune-ups using OEM parts. Flowmaster sounds perfect, installing the Flowmaster w/ the cold air intake kit is a great combination.

36. I have a 2002 Silverado Extended cab short bed 4×4 5.3 1500 and get a solid 16-17 mpg. Added a cold air intake and magnaflow exhaust and it gave me almost 1 mpg improvement overall. However it has a noticable amount of more power both normal driving with an improved throtle responce and in towing.

40. Too bad they don’t sell the Cheyenne anymore. I have a 1995 with 4.3 V-6 and a 5 speed, it’s a highway truck, really, but more power than I’ll ever need (never understood V-8’s for anything but trailer towing) and I regularly get 20 mpg city, and 25 highway. I just dropped a new motor in it as the last one had 270,000 miles and had lost compression, but even at that I normally got 18 mpg and I swear it was only running on about 4 cylinders. WISE UP GM, we want a full sized V-6 that gets 30 mpg city!

41. Adam/#18-I had a 1989 Short bed,sport side,single cab, 350 w/turbo 350 trans. I drove it to Big Sur,Ca. every year from 95 to 2002, loaded with motorcyle, tools, gear, food,etc. It got 20/22 driving 80/100mph on I 10 for about 1500 miles. Around town it got 15/18. In ’09 I sold it for $2500 and bought a 09 Silverado with 4.3 v6. The record mpg was 16.9. Usually12/13 around town. Sure wish I had my ’89 back. Great truck!!!

43. What gears do you have in the rear? If you don’t tow a lot then change to a more efficient gear ratio

44. It all depends on how and what tires drive on. Just did 2k mile trip from colorado to idaho/ Canada driving 2005 suburban 5.3l with 5.33 gears on michelin defender tires. Best was 21mpg @ 65pmh. Wost 14mpg @ 85mph. Just shows what speed will do to mpg.

45. i got a chevy silverdo 1999 v8 3 doors an have tire 275/55r20 with 40 psi an i gives me 19 mines por gallon on road an 13 mile por gallon on town! an i won¨t change for nothing!
